The Spirit of Sam Jones again

Hi everyone!

I’m back to tell you about my latest excursion. I did take a scud around the Village and I can only say I enjoyed it immensely. Some of the storms have kicked up the waves lately and deposited some wonderful shells on the beaches. I overheard some folks talking about what they found, although I myself haven’t been out on the beach yet.

The Village has changed since my time. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised, but it does take some getting used to. Tourists are wearing much more comfortable clothes now. I myself can’t go out without my watch chain and of course my hat. I forgot! I can’t wear a hat now, but I can pretend. I always wore long pants but I like the idea of cutting them off at the knees, which seems to be a favorite nowadays. Wow! I was quite overwhelmed at the variety of restaurants and stores here on this small island. Couldn’t quite decide where I wanted to eat, but then I remembered I don’t have to fill my tummy anymore. I’ll just have to watch others enjoy the food.

Came back to the Castle this afternoon and sat on the screened porch enjoying the conversations of people on vacation. Most are falling in love with Ocracoke as I did. A lot of them have come back time and again and that makes me happy to know they chose the Castle to stay for the time they’re here. Just warms my heart! I went upstairs to the “Widow’s Walk”, and just as in my day, the view is fantastic. What a great place to let’s say, ask a gal to marry you!

It should be a clear night tonight, and being I don’t have to do much sleeping, I think I will just enjoy the brilliant sunset and the stars, which never ceased to amaze me. I also may float around the rooms for a while checking to see if I know anyone who is staying here tonight.

See you all soon!
