Fall beach walk on Ocracoke Island

Spirit of Sam Jones

Supposed to rain this afternoon, so I went for a nice stroll on the beach. Ocracoke has one of the loveliest beaches in the world. Went to what is called the public beach, where there is a nice ramp, lots of parking and now a bath house. Only a few folks there. It was cloudy, but warm (high 60s) and not breezy. The ocean was roaring, birds everywhere and dolphins playing in the water. What a beautiful sight.

Funny many of the islanders get so caught-up with working so much, family life and just daily chores they hardly make it to the beach. They go more as the season closes and enjoy the late fall, winter and early spring – the quiet time. The best time.

Makes me want to remind folks – don’t let time slip away. Grab life every chance you get. It is so easy to get caught up in the small things – even on laid back Ocracoke.
Another Ocracoke resident died last week. Nice notice on PO bulletin board about her. Capt. Jette Carr – quite a character. I heard that Jette recently said, “I’ve lived a full life and did all I wanted to do.” Not many folks can say that. Remember: Go for that beach walk today. Take extra time to spend with loved ones. And treat yourself to a night or two at a special place like the Castle.
