Mid November and still Rocking!

Mid November and still Rocking!

During the month of October and now into mid November, the Castle enjoyed the repeat groups of North Carolina neighbors that rent the Castle rooms and the Villas each year for an annual get together. As I gather from their conversations, they have been doing this for years….getting away for a few days of fishing, relaxing and just enjoying being away from everyday schedules. It makes me proud that I had this old house built and still maintains the tradition of welcoming visitors and making new friends. I tried to get in on the conversations but oh well……………

It is now mid November and much of the island is closing down. Things have been quiet during the week but come the weekends and folks are still taking advantage of the nice weather. A few of the restaurants are putting out the closed sign – that is closed for the season. Went by to visit the “Flying Mellon CafĂ©” for one of last nights of the season and the place was packed with mostly locals. Islanders don’t have much time during the busy summer months, so they make that extra effort to get to the stores and restaurants before they close for the season. Everyone was smiling and having a great time – table hoping, catching up with folks and enjoying some delicious food. This town loves to eat.

Meanwhile back at the Castle, I have to tell you about two young ladies who came for a visit from Norway. They were on extended vacations driving cross country. Started in LA, came across country and headed south along the east coast. They noticed a nice looking out of the way road – Hwy 12 and decided to drive down. Ended up taking the ferry over to Ocracoke and looked for a place to stay the night. They picked the Castle, thought it looked charming. They obviously have good taste. Breakfast was especially fun that day hearing tales of their journeys and learning more about Norway. They get a mandatory 5 weeks paid vacation a year. Now that is something! Just so much fun how folks find Ocracoke. Their only sorrow was they could only stay one night, but promised to return for a longer visit.
