A bit nippy on Ocracoke Island

Yes, looks like winter is arriving. The temperatures are a bit nippy. Course since Ocracoke is a true island and surrounded by water, it is warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer than the mainland. Usually about ten degrees difference between here and the mainland. There’s even talk of snow flurries just across the sound.

Was out checking out the village earlier and came back around 3 pm to be greeted with the smell of fresh coffee and fresh baked cookies. Mmmmmm Mmmmmm. What a treat. Talking about warming the soul – or spirit in my case. Settled down enjoying the smells and listening to folks drop by.

Five beautiful wreaths were just delivered to the Castle. They are handmade by a group of island women. They gather the greenery here on the island and assemble them with what you can tell is both loving care and artistic style. The different shades of green are astounding. Reminds you of what a natural paradise this is. Can’t wait to see where they hang them. The Castle is looking very festive with a beautiful tree, lights and decorations. Real pretty and inviting, if I may say so!

If you get a chance – come see us. I know Ocracoke is a good distance for most to come; but seems like everyone always agrees it is worth every minute spent to get here. And who doesn’t love a great breakfast. Of course many miles of national seashore and a wonderful community are two others. Whatever brings you here…. Just come. I’ll be watching out for you.
